Weavature is an object-scale exploration that bridges contemporary design rigour with traditional craft within the context of Maltese making. Conceived through parametric and generative design processes, the piece interrogates the structural potential of weaving as an active component of form and support. Its profile is defined by a restrained steel frame that balances strength and visual clarity, with connection points and geometry developed to integrate tensioned elements without excess. The woven seat, derived from a pattern informed by climatic data, is realised in dialogue with established craft techniques, embedding heritage logic into a contemporary structural language. The assembly of materials and methods foregrounds a careful negotiation between digital precision and manual expertise, where each element contributes to a coherent structural and tactile expression.

Situated as an object within the broader discourse of design and making, Weavature operates as both functional seating and a demonstration of material and procedural synthesis. The collaboration between parametric design, artisan weaving and specialist metalwork positions the project at the intersection of studio practice and craft innovation, allowing traditional techniques to inform and enrich the formal resolution. Supported by a national craft initiative and recognised with an award for inspiring artisanship and collaboration, the work affirms a position for locally grounded design that responds to cultural specificity through a disciplined architectural approach to material, structure and fabrication logic.
