FiftySix Design Talks is a collaborative design forum developed by I+A in partnership with the Valletta Design Cluster. Structured as a biannual framework, each six-month cycle is centred on a single theme and dedicated to sustained reflection on architecture, design and the built environment. Rather than functioning as a standalone event, the initiative unfolds over time through workshops, informal collaboration and structured discussion, allowing ideas to be tested, revisited and refined. Each cycle concludes with a public panel discussion hosted at the Valletta Design Cluster, positioning dialogue as the outcome of a longer process of collective inquiry.
The programme is defined by a consistent structure that prioritises clarity, continuity and documentation. Contributors from practice, research and related fields engage in a series of moderated sessions, responding to curated prompts and producing material that feeds into the evolving thematic investigation. Emphasis is placed on synthesis and record-keeping, ensuring that each exchange generates tangible outputs and contributes to an accumulating archive. Through this approach, FiftySix Design Talks positions advocacy as an architectural act in its own right—one rooted in shared authorship, disciplined inquiry and the belief that meaningful public discourse emerges through time, structure and sustained attention.
