The mixed-media sculpture draws reference from the notion of fire as a symbol of progress and hope. As one of Empedocles’ four classical elements, the ability to control fire has been one of mankind’s earliest technological achievements. Ancient civilisations regarded fire as a gift from the gods, with some attributing it to the sun god, for the sun was understood as a sphere of endless fire. The symbolism associated with fire and daytime has persisted into modern culture, where fire and day represent hope, while darkness and night are associated with uncertainty.

Inspired by the movement of hot air, the geometry is arranged to reflect the fluid dynamics of smoke particles. Steel pillars emerge from the landscape as fragments of liquid fire, and at night the pillars illuminate like rays of hope.
